MUSIC in the LITURGY
"SING THE WORDS AND TUNES OF THE PSALMS AND HYMNS WHEN YOU ARE TOGETHER,
AND GO ON SINGING AND CHANTING TO THE LORD IN YOUR HEARTS,
SO THAT ALWAYS AND EVERYWHERE YOU ARE GIVING THANKS,
IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, TO GOD WHO IS OUR FATHER."
(Ephesians 5:19-20).
Our Choirs & Music Ministries
Few activities are as rewarding as singing choral music, yet many people deny themselves this experience because of shyness, or by thinking of themselves as not "musical".
Not only do those who "come out" liberate and develop their own hidden gifts: they encourage the whole congregation to do the same, and to embrace the freedom to worship joyfully.
Congregational singing in Owen Sound, Meaford and Sauble Beach is supported by choirs; Owen Sound has two. Do think about coming out to a practice or two. Talk to your church's Music Minister to find out when they are. You will be glad you did.
Congregational Singing
There are few more effective indicators of the life and spirit of a congregation than its singing. Congregations of St. Mary's & the Missions sing very well indeed, but we need all voices. Check out Fr. Paul Walsh's reflections on the importance of song in worship.
Wedding Music
This page will acquaint you with the Church's guidelines for wedding music, and with the resources St. Mary's & the Missions can offer you for your special day. You can listen to MIDI samples of our wedding selections.
Catholic Book of Worship III
This page offers a full index of the hymns and settings in CBW III, our main hymn book. Here you can listen to most of the tunes in MIDI format. The link is through AOL and it used to be a bit cranky, but seems ok now.
